My name is Billy Davis, Washington Chapter President. Born in Southern Illinois and raised in Eastern Kansas. I spent most of my younger life fishing and got interested in hunting 10 years ago. Since I started hunting, I have been obsessed with the sport, water fowling is my favorite. I hunt every weekend, and any other spare moment I can. I believe in helping other’s get involved in the sport, which is why I chose to help this wonderful organization.
Even though I have been in the sport a short time, I have gained a lot of useful information that I can pass on to others. Other organizations that I currently help with are: South Platte Delta Chapters and Southern Arkansas River Valley Delta Chapter. By helping the Wounded Veterans Waterfowl Club, I am able to give back to the Soldiers whom have sacrificed so much in order for us to live in the greatest country in the world. Their sacrifice gives us the ability to enjoy the sport many of us love so much. Let’s load up the dog and the dekes and stack some up!
I grew up in Western New York hunting and fishing all over the state. I started waterfowl hunting when I was 14 when a lifelong friend invited me to go with him. I couldn’t hit the side of a barn if I wanted to, but I was hooked from that first hunt. At 18 I joined the navy and left, and it brought me to Whidbey Island where I have been for the last 10 years. I’m proud to say that I was the first veteran to hunt with the Washington chapter the first year we ran hunts. Billy kept inviting me back to help and I was once again hooked on helping out veterans and active-duty members of the military getting them out to hunt. It makes my day taking everyone out from the newest hunter to the saltiest of waterfowl hunters. I have a 3-year-old Black lab named Smokey who enjoys getting up on the early morning to get after those ducks and geese.
Hello, I’m Brandon, a Nevada native who grew up surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors. After high school, I proudly joined the navy and made my way to Washington. It was there that fate brought me together with Alan, a fellow staffer, who introduced me to the incredible world of duck hunting.
My very first hunting experience was with the club, and it was a turning point in my life. Soon after, I found myself dedicating my off days to volunteering for this meaningful cause. When fall arrives, you can usually find me cheering on the Eagles from home, but my real passion chasing calling and shooting ducks.
I’m excited about the opportunity to hunt with you and share the knowledge and love I have for this sport. Together, we’ll make unforgettable memories while exploring the breath-taking scenery of the PNW.
Hi! I’m Chris O’Neill, I am currently active-duty Navy stationed here at Whidbey Island Washington. I’ve been serving for just over 8 years now as an Aviation Electronics Technician on both the F/A-18 Super hornet and the EA-18G Growler. The Navy has uprooted me from Massachusetts and stationed me in Lemoore California and now Whidbey Island Washington. I reside with my girlfriend along with our three golden retrievers and two cats, basically a small petting zoo.
I first got involved with WVWC four years ago when our Vice President brought me up to Lynden to help clean up the blind. I soon found out that the group of people involved with this club are the most selfless people I have come to work with. I volunteered for two summers with WVWC before Billy Davis insisted, I join the club as a staff member. Before this I had never hunted Waterfowl, nor did I own a shotgun.
Well, I own a shotgun now and hunt waterfowl. I have been with WVWC as a staff member for two years now and looking forward to many more years.
My name is Benjamin Kohler, I am 32 years old and happily married to my wife Rosie with whom I have four children with. I was in the Army for just over 7 years of active duty. While I was in the Army I served as a DART squad leader in Iraq as well as a helicopter powerplant repairer conducting maintenance on all Army type helicopters. My service in the military was cut short when I was involved in hard landing /crash in a helicopter. I was later medically retired from the Army due to my injuries. After several years of physical therapy my walking has become a lot better. Waterfowl is where my passion lies. I love to call in the ducks and geese close and really enjoy watching them work. I always love introducing new hunters to this experience and see their face as the duck’s dive in. Studying waterfowl in the off season has greatly increased my experience and changed how I look at them.
For me hunting and fishing is more than just a sport, its therapy. Over the years I have seen different VA therapist for PTSD, but nothing makes me feel more like myself (normal) than in the field chasing another adventure. I know there are many others with many more years of experience than me. What I lack in the years I make up for with determination, drive, and the love of hunting. Currently I’m in school pursuing a degree in digital entertainment in film. So, when I do not have a gun or bow with me I can still shoot them with a camera. I know what it’s like to be told you’re broken, and fighting with PTSD day in and day out. Traditional therapy just doesn’t cut it for many service members, but simply sitting in a duck blind with other veterans just enjoying the moment (feeling normal) for once, can change someone’s life.
I am a proud purebred Black Labrador from the renowned Blackwater Lab Kennels in Spanaway. My training was under the expert guidance of Jeff Hunter at Muddy Waters Retrievers, and now I am proudly owned and handled by Alan. If could go hunting every day I would. But we only have 110 days here, so I make the most of it. I’m very friendly and good with other dogs. It’s a joy to meet and hunt with new people from all around. I’ll be sure to try and get a snack from you or lick you across the face. If I’m not hunting, i‘ll be at home on the couch or in my parent’s face wanting all the attention or stealing food from the tiny humans running around the house trying to ride me like a horse. Hope to see you in the blind!!
The only things I love in life is red hot nasty speed, ducks, and my family. I’m a 2-year-old lab from Black Lab Kennels. My half-brother is Smokey. I’m all go no stop which is why I’m still going through intense training with my owner. Hopefully I’ll be able to see you in the blind soon and you can shoot some ducks for me!
